We all know that the skin cream market is a billion dollar industry.   But have you ever considered a more holistic approach to protect your skin from premature aging with the foods you eat?

Fruits, like watermelon and cantaloupe, are some of the most hydrating foods we can eat because they contain mostly water which in turn rehydrates us.

But did you know that the following 6 foods also protect your skin from premature aging due to their antioxidants?

Blueberries ~ Ranked #1 in antioxidant properties by the Department of Agriculture and the Archives of Dermatological Research, blueberries protect the skin from premature aging.  Add 1/2 cup to your cereal, oatmeal or yogurt each day.

Walnuts ~ These nuts have Omega 3 fatty acids and Vitamin E which help the skin retain moisture.  It doesn’t take much, just a few walnuts each day provides enough Omega 3s.

Kale ~ Packed with Vitamins A, C & K.  But more importantly, kale contains indole-3-carbinol, which boots DNA repair in cells.  Add a handful to your smoothie to reap the benefits of this powerhouse food!

Tomatoes ~ Best source of the anti aging component lycopene.   According to Dr. Weil,It may also be the most powerful carotenoid against singlet oxygen, a highly reactive oxygen molecule and a primary cause of premature skin aging.”

Water with lemon ~ The Vitamin C found in lemons increases the production of collagen which is responsible for your skin’s elasticity.   They also have concentrated levels of antioxidants.  Add a slice to your next glass of water.

Cucumber ~ Cucumbers contain silica, which is an ingredient that boots moisture and elasticity.  Put some in your salad to eat or even directly on the skin, especially the eye area, to reduce puffiness.

Try some of these ideas over the next few weeks and see if you notice any changes in your skin.
