Make THIS, Not THAT!: Brownies




These brownies have surpassed ANY chocolate, decadent, delicious, sweet dessert on my radar!

  • Not just because they are moist;
  • Not just because they are a BREEZE to make;
  • Not because I can FREEZE them;
  • Nor because they are GLUTEN FREE;
  • It’s because they are HEALTHY!!!!!  Yes, healthy!

You see, they are not made with white flour ~ they are made with beans!!  And I promise you, you’re kids, husband, family and friends will NEVER know!

Ingredients (25):

Sugar ~ if the FIRST ingredient in a product is sugar, girl you just better run!  I looked at the label on this box and it has 16 servings in it.  That equals 288 GRAMS of sugar in this box of brownies.

Wheat Enriched Bleached Flour – nothing burns me up more than how the food companies are able to get away with deceiving customers with fancy words like this.  Most people when they read this misinterpret it to mean ‘whole wheat flour’.  Nothing could be further from the truth!  It is technically no different than white flour.  Manufacturers take whole-grain wheat, strip out 11 vitamins and minerals, then add synthetic chemicals that represent only four vitamins and one mineral.  Then to make matters worse they BLEACH the flour using harmful chemicals.  You can read more here and here about the flour confusion and how manufacturers are laughing all the way to the bank.

Soy – soy is listed on here twice.   There have been hundreds of studies that link modern processed soy to malnutrition, digestive problems, thyroid dysfunction, cognitive decline, reproductive disorders, immune system breakdown, and even heart disease and cancer.  This is because the soybean contains many naturally occurring toxins at very high levels and are resistant to the traditional ways of getting rid of them.

Ready for this?  Today’s modern soy is different than the olden Asian soy in that it’s made with “soy protein isolate (SPI), which is a protein-rich powder extracted by an industrial process from the waste product of soy oil manufacturing. It is the industry’s way of making a profit on a waste product. The industry spent over 30 years and billions of dollars developing SPI.”  {source}

Natural Flavors –  As I’ve stated here, here, here and here, there are NO regulations when it comes to the FDA and Natural Flavoring.  There can be one compound making up your vanilla flavor or thousands of compounds and flavors.  Isn’t it great they aren’t required to tell us what they are?

The FDA has a questionnaire on their website HERE asking for our feedback on the labeling of Natural Flavors.  I IMPLORE you to take 2 minutes out and of your day and take it.  It’s only 3 questions but it makes our voices heard!!!
