Peanut Butter Cups

Is there any better marriage between two flavors than chocolate and peanut butter?  Good, then we’re on the same page.

According to Wikipedia, Reese’s Peanut Butter cups are the most popular candy in America, did you know that?  {source}

I started making these last year and have been fiddling with them ever since.  I took out the graham crackers, even though they really were good.  I just wanted to unprocess it even further.  So now they are just natural peanut butter, chocolate, butter and maple syrup.  Simple, right?

They have so few ingredients, most you probably already have, besides the chocolate bar.  And take so little time to make.

This is what I did:

  • You melt half the chocolate bar and put a TEENY TINY amount in the bottom of a mini muffin tin.  And by TEENY TINY I mean take a teaspoon and just use half of it, swirl it around the bottom and then bang the muffin tray on the counter and they will level out.
  • Freeze for 15 min
  • Then melt the peanut butter, butter and syrup over low heat and put a TEENY TINY amount on top of the chocolate.
  • Homemade peanut butter cups
  • Freeze 15 min
  • Then repeat with the chocolate.  This should give you 13 or 14 small little peanut butter cups and they will hopefully turn out looking like these:

Peanut Butter Cups

  • 1/2 cup all natural peanut butter
  • 1 Tablespoon butter
  • 1/8 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 organic chocolate bar (75% cocoa or higher)

  1. Line a mini muffin tin with 12 mini liners
  2. Split the chocolate bar in half and then cut it up into small pieces (one part is used for the top of the peanut butter cup, the other is used for the bottom)
  3. Melt the chocolate in the microwave for 1 min @ 70% power. Stir and heat in 30 sec intervals until melted
  4. Spoon a tiny amount in the muffin tin (JUST enough to cover the bottom, no more)
  5. Freeze for 15 min
  6. Meanwhile, melt the peanut butter, butter and syrup over low heat until smooth and creamy
  7. Spoon a tiny amount on top of the chocolate (again JUST enough to cover)
  8. Bang the pan on the counter to smooth it out
  9. Freeze for 15 min
  10. Melt the remaining chocolate the same way and spoon on top of the peanut butter
  11. Freeze

I used all organic ingredients when available, and hope you do too!  🙂
