Hi my name is Debi and I’m so glad you are here!

I am a lot like you.. a mom of 2 with 101 things to do in a day.  I was neglecting myself, my body and putting myself last (welcome to Motherhood!).  I have been a stay at home mom for most of my kids lives and I thought I was providing healthy meals, but come to find out I wasn’t.  We ate processed foods everyday.  The boxed rices, macaroni and cheese, frozen entrees, jarred sauces, pizza.

I started taking a hard look at what we were eating when I tried time and time again to lose weight.  I would lose a few pounds, and it would come right back on again.   This went on for years until I was 30 lbs overweight.  Well one day I had enough!  I decided to make some drastic changes in our family.  We started eliminating processed foods!  But much to my surprise, that was just the beginning of my journey.

During the weeks and months that followed our “un”processing I started taking a closer look at what was really in these boxed foods….the chemicals, preservatives, words I would just skim over.   What were these big words really?  How are they made?  How toxic are they and what are the long term effects on our bodies, including our children’s?

I discovered according to a review by the Pew Health Groups Group Additives Project, more than 10,000 chemicals were allowed in human food as of January 2011, and 2/3rds of them were approved by those with a vested interest!!!  Either the product manufacturers themselves or the Flavor and Extract Manufacturers Association Expert Panel gave them a stamp of approval.

This makes me mad and it should make you mad too!

These chemicals, natural flavors, additives and GMOs are slowly killing us.  We need to take back our food from these money hungry food corporations and start demanding higher quality products.  It was then I decided to make it my goal to start a website about our journey and continue to research these chemicals and preservatives.

I decided to break the website down into different categories:

  • The first being an educational section, where I’ve compiled the latest research on genetically modified foods (GMOs), food dyes, artificial colors and flavors.  What are these chemicals and why are they in our food?
  • The next section is a how to.  How to eliminate processed foods from your lives.  Most people may not want to cut out all processed foods all at once, or even know where to begin.  My 10 Week Challenge will take you from a pantry filled with preservatives, frozen foods, soda and snack foods to an organic colorful kitchen.  Simple weekly challenges that anyone can do but will have a lasting impact.
  • The last section is what you will replace these foods with.  My recipe section is filled with foods we eat everyday and love.  Real food, whole food.  Many of the recipes can be cooked and on the table in under 30 min.  Some are more advanced.  Everything from appetizers to soups to desserts.  All preservative free!

We are still in the process of ‘Un’Processing processed foods from our home.  We are not there yet.  It simply (IMO) cannot happen overnight.  It takes time.  But we’ve been where you are now.. we’ve been overwhelmed with where to start… we’ve gone through the sugar with drawls… and yes!  we’ve gone through the meal no one likes and there’s no backup plan.  We are here to help you, guide you and assist you in taking the steps you need to making your home chemical and preservative free.

And to be totally honest here, I don’t think we will ever become 100% unprocessed.  It’s almost impossible.  We have comfortably settled on the 80/20 rule.  We have small children who are still growing and part of that growing involves socialization and a lot of our socializing in this country is around food.   It’s difficult as a parent to find a balance between too much junk food and real food.  I’m a parent who struggles with that as well.

We have to be comfortable with our choices and find the balance that’s right for us.  I want my kids to love food as much as I do and enjoy their meals and take time to sit around the table with family and friends.  I take the time to prepare healthy meals from scratch now and have found my family enjoying their meals more and hanging around the table longer.  The treats at school or at a friends house are all things we need to work around as parents to find that delicate balance.  Hopefully this website will help you find it!

Most of the recipes you will find here are my own creations.  Some have been passed down from people in my family, friends, old magazine clippings, etc. and doctored and adapted to my families tastes throughout the years.

If a recipe belongs to someone else and/or I altered their recipe I will clearly state that.   You may repost the ingredients in my recipe, but the instructions must be in your own words with a link back to my site.  It’s only fair and right.  I’m sure you wouldn’t want someone starting a food blog and stealing your recipes, right?

Yes, these photos are mine.  Good, bad, and let’s be honest, some aren’t even worth stealing.  But they’re still mine.  My photos may be used on Pinterest or Facebook with a link back to my page.  All other uses of my photos are strictly prohibited.

Thank you for visiting and please feel free to leave comments or email me at
I’d love to hear where your journey of “Un”processing took you!

UPDATE:  Feb 2018

I began this website as a means to help others stop relying on boxed and packaged foods.  I did this mainly by replicating the recipe using ingredients in my pantry and cooking at home.  While I do believe this was far better than the store bought version or fast food, it was far from what I now (in 2018) consider to be ‘healthy’.

I’ve done extensive research on our food supply, the corruption, manipulation, GMOs etc. and have spent the better part of 2017 and now moving into 2018 eating mainly a Paleo/Keto diet.  For those of you who are unfamiliar with Keto you can check it out here on Dr. Berg’s YouTube channel.   He is a front runner in the ketogenic lifestyle and someone I have followed when I needed answers.

To make a long story short I wasn’t sure how to handle the shift in my eating and whether I would open up another website.  I have decided not to but to continue with this one as I’ve valued the relationships I have made with you these last 6 yrs.

So with that being said, the recipes you will see from now on will be mainly Paleo and/or Keto.  Please research a ketogenic diet IN DETAIL should you decide to follow it full time.  In the meantime these recipes are healthy and fine for any diet and feel free to substitute/cut out/eliminate some of the fat if you feel it is too high for your diet.

As always, thank you for your following
