Description

A fail proof, no brainer, easy side dish that takes no effort to make yet adds tons of flavor to boring rice and the added benefit of turmeric to your diet !

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 Cups Basmati or Jasmine Rice
  • 2 Tablespoons Butter
  • 3 Cups Chicken Broth
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric
  • 1 Tablespoon Fresh Garlic, minced
  • 1/41/2 teaspoon Cumin
  • 1/81/4 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1 whole Bay Leaf

Instructions

  1. Start by rinsing the rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This step helps remove excess starch from the rice.
  2. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  3. Add the turmeric, cumin, cinnamon, and bay leaf to the saucepan. Stir the spices into the butter and garlic mixture, allowing them to toast and release their flavors for about 1 minute.
  4. Now, add the rinsed rice to the saucepan. Stir well to coat the rice grains with the aromatic mixture, ensuring every grain is coated with the lovely yellow color of the turmeric.
  5. Pour in the chicken broth and bring the mixture to a gentle boil. Give it a good stir, then reduce the heat to low and cover the saucepan with a tight-fitting lid.
  6. Allow the rice to simmer undisturbed for about 15-20 minutes or until the liquid is absorbed and the rice is tender. Be sure to follow the cooking instructions specific to the type of rice you’re using, as the cooking times may vary slightly.
  7. Once the rice is cooked, remove the bay leaf and fluff the rice gently with a fork to separate the grains.
