Making your own Fajita Seasoning blend at home is not only easy but also allows you to customize the flavors just the way you like them. With a few basic ingredients, you can create a delicious seasoning mix that’ll elevate your chicken fajitas to new heights, all while avoiding processed chemicals.

Crafting your own blend of spices for fajitas opens up a world of flavor possibilities. With just a handful of common spices, you can create a versatile seasoning mix that adds depth and excitement to a variety of dishes. Whether you’re cooking up chicken, beef, shrimp, or even veggies, homemade fajita seasoning is a simple spice blend to make at home.
What’s In Fajita Seasoning?
Fajita seasoning typically includes a combination of spices to create its signature flavor profile. Common ingredients found in fajita seasoning include chili powder, paprika, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper, and sometimes a hint of sugar for balance and cornstarch for thickening.
The great thing is I get to adjust these spices according to what I like. I tend to like the smoky flavor from smoked paprika so sometimes I’ll use that instead of plain paprika.

What else can I use this spice blend for?
My kids put this seasoning (and anything Cajun) in just about everything they make. But here are a few suggestions you might want to try:
- Chicken fajitas are the obvious answer here, but this spice blend is excellent for steak fajitas and shrimp fajitas too! It can enhance any protein to stuff tacos, burritos, or quesadillas.
- Sprinkle it over roasted vegetables or potatoes for a flavorful side dish.
- Use it as a seasoning for homemade dips or soups.
- Mix it into rice or quinoa for added flavor and depth.
