I am a HUGE fan of Lara Bars for to 2 reasons:

#1 they usually have 5 ingredients or less and
#2 they are made with dates.

I didn’t know very much about dates.  I wasn’t exposed to them very often growing up or as an adult.  As a matter of fact, I thought they were icky.

What I did know, however, was they had sugar in them which is why they are so popular with Lara Bar fans.  They have a natural kind of nature made sweetness to them.  So I did some research on dates and was happy to discover that some in the medical field have named dates at THE IDEAL FOOD as stated here from the National Library of Medicine.

The best part of all this?

There are only 4 ingredients in these bars (I don’t count salt) and if you are having any kind of chocolate craving ~ this will satisfy that HANDS DOWN !!!!!

Give them a try, they are SO  worth it!

  • 1 Pkg Pitted Dried Dates (usually found in the produce section in a clear plastic container)
  • 3/4 Cup Unsalted Peanuts
  • 2 Tbsp Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
  • 1 oz Grated 90-100% Cocoa Chocolate Bar (preferably organic)
  • 1/4 teaspoon Sea Salt

Instructions

  1. Line a 7X7 (or 8×8) pan with plastic foil.
  2. Put the dates in a food processor and pulse until they are finely chopped and they start to form a ball.
  3. Add the peanuts, cocoa powder and salt. Pulse few more times until the peanuts are finely chopped.
  4. Lastly, add the grated chocolate.
  5. Take the date mixture out and spread it evenly in the prepared pan. Cover with more plastic wrap and refrigerate for 2 or more hours before cutting into bars/squares.

What quantity should the dates be? I do not understand “1 pkg”.
