If you’re craving a Thanksgiving dish that’s equal parts crispy, juicy, and downright satisfying, this Air Fryer Turkey Leg is the no-fuss recipe you didn’t know you needed.

Well Thanksgiving has come and gone and if you’re like me, you probably only make turkey for one holiday, not both. But what if I told you there’s an easy way to still enjoy turkey—without the whole production? Especially if you’re a fan of those juicy dark meat turkey legs!
I’ll admit, the first time I cooked a turkey leg in an air fryer, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. Would it get crispy? Would it dry out? Spoiler: it was perfection. The skin turned golden and crackly, while the meat stayed tender and juicy. Plus, the air fryer worked its magic in about half the time it takes in an oven. A win-win if you ask me!
Ingredients to Make an Air Fryer Turkey Leg
This recipe is pretty straight forward. You can use just about any spices you like.
I chose the following:
- Sea salt & pepper
- Paprika
- Garlic & onion powders
- Chili powder
- Dried oregano & thyme
- and a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes (optional for heat)

Mix the spices with the oil until combined and rub it alll over the turkey leg. I like to use some disposable gloves for this – it can get kinda messy, but you want to make sure the turkey leg is evenly coated.

Tips for Air Fryer First-Timers
If this is your first time cooking a turkey leg in an air fryer, don’t worry. It’s super straightforward, but here are a few things I learned along the way to make the process foolproof:
- Dry is Key: Before you even think about seasoning, pat that turkey leg dry with paper towels. This little step makes a big difference in getting that skin to crisp up nicely.
- Season Like You Mean It: Don’t be shy with the spice rub. Turkey legs are big and bold, and the seasoning needs to match that. I mix the spices with olive oil which sticks to the turkey leg and helps lock in moisture.
- Preheat Your Air Fryer: It’s tempting to skip this step when you’re in a rush, but preheating the air fryer ensures even cooking right from the start. It’s like letting your oven warm up—it just works better.
- Flip: About halfway through cooking, flip the turkey leg over. This ensures the heat gets to all sides, and you’ll end up with evenly cooked meat and golden skin all around.
- Check the Temperature: A meat thermometer is crucial. You’re aiming for an internal temperature of 165°F in the thickest part of the meat.
- Let it Rest: Once it’s out of the air fryer, give the turkey leg a few minutes to rest. This step is key to keeping all those juices where they belong—inside the meat, not on your cutting board.

How to Air Fry Turkey Legs:
Preheat the Air Fryer:
- Set your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Preheating helps the turkey legs cook evenly and get that crispy skin.
Prepare the Turkey Legs:
- Pat the turkey legs dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. This will help the skin get crispy.
- Rub the turkey legs with the spice rub.
Air Fry the Turkey Legs:
- Place the turkey legs in the air fryer basket. Be sure to arrange them in a single layer with a little space between each leg to allow for even air circulation.
- Air fry for 25-30 minutes, flipping the turkey legs halfway through. This helps them cook evenly and get that golden, crispy skin on both sides.

If you’ve never cooked a turkey leg this way before, trust me—it’s easier than you think, and the results might just surprise you. I can’t wait to hear how it turns out for you!
