With the right protein powder and ingredients, a protein smoothie is a great breakfast and this Chocolate Protein Smoothie is one of my personal favorites!

I make this smoothie – Every. Single. Day. Intermittent fasting has been my routine long before it became trendy—I just can’t eat breakfast first thing in the morning. Instead, I kickstart my day with a cup of coffee, and come 10 to 11 am, it’s time to fire up the NutriBullet.
What’s in Your Protein Powder?
I have researched protein powders on and off for years. However, trying to find one that is as pure as possible can take some time. The majority of them contain artificial sweeteners like sucralose and aspartame, tons of fillers like carageenen, cellulose and malodextrin for shelf life. But most importantly, protein powders derived from plants may contain higher levels of heavy metals like lead, arsenic, or cadmium due to contamination from the soil.
The protein powder I use is Naked Whey – it is the cleanest protein powder I’ve found. If you are used to other well known powders like Orgain or Premier, I’m here to tell you to throw them away, they are garbage. EWG has classified Orgain as “having moderate processing concerns” and “may contain high arsenic levels from rice and rice-based ingredients [read more]”
Thanks. But no thanks.
Naked Whey is GRASS FED Whey powder. It will taste a little different because it lacks all the added chemicals the others do. It also requires a high-powered blender or Nutribullet to get it fully mixed (again because they don’t use chemicals). But it’s a blank canvas to add what you want to it. The best part is actually KNOWING what you’re getting.

How to Make a Morning Chocolate Protein Smoothie
Gather your ingredients:
- Unsweetened almond milk (or any milk of your choice)
- Banana
- Chocolate protein power
- Almond butter (or any nut butter)
- Collagen powder
- Ground flax seeds & Chia seeds
- Vanilla extract
- Ice cubes (optional, for a colder smoothie)
- Optional: I like to add something green usually spinach
TIP: If you plan ahead, try adding a frozen banana and omit the ice cubes for a more concentrated smoothie.
Throw it all into the Nutribullet and whirl away until combined.

Personally, I’m a huge fan of protein smoothies not just for the protein but because I can pack them full of collagen, flax seeds, and chia seeds. I even add my Ashwagandha capsule in there too!
Primarily, a smoothie for breakfast works best for me, but it’s great post-workout or as an afternoon snack or pick-me-up.
I hope you give my Chocolate protein smoothie a try and let me know what you think!
